Boats

A SAD PARTING (and even sadder PARTING-OUT) We were recenly forced to scrap our 1979 boat. Before doing so we removed everything of value.

Contact me for any parts you might need to improve the value of your own boat. The engine is sold, but everything else is available, including a dry rudder, deck hardware, pulpits, interior parts and rigging. Ask about anything else of interest. Mast and boom, sails and furler are listed separately on this page.

1979 J/30 Hull #87 Zephyr V2.0 (formerly) Rampage located on Lake Ponchartrain in New Orleans

I'm the third owner and have used it very lightly over the last 19 years. Was owned from 1979 to 1983 by the Chicago Yacht Club Race Committee Chairman, an avid racer in Chicago (raced 5 consecutive "Mackinaw" races until Bob Conrad bought it and cruised her). It has about 700 hrs total on the Yanmar, it has a rebuilt Ecliptec prop and 7/8" shaft, 1991 new generation mast, brand new Benz Faget North Sales sails) and all related hardware, full interior (removable table, ice box, alcohol stove, electronics panel, nav. station, etc), safety gear (harnesses, MOB gear, 2 horse-shoe rings, 6-man life raft, etc.), new halyards.

The boat is in good overall condition with a brand new paint job, Awlgrip Stark White with Zephyr Blue boot stripe. The hull is feathered with a brand new racing bottom job (Intralux 2000e barrier with BaltoPlate). Donnie Brennan faired "go fast" rudder. The interior is original (cushions faded/weathered). Deck is newly painted (good and solid). Hatches have been replaced.

1985 J/30 Hull #526 Daisy Cutter Located in Scituate, MA

This is one of the "new" boats with the desired cockpit configuration. It has a good combination of racing and cruising upgrades. The first owner Cruised it. The cruising configuration includes an aft propane locker, swim ladder, AC Power. The next owner raced it and added many racing upgrades, Tuff Luff head stay, folding prop, new boom vang, windward sheeting traveler. Other upgrades include new forward hatch, new companionway boards, new portlights, GPS Chartplotter mounted for viewing from the Cockpit, ST 2000 Autohelm, Dodger (although it needs repair), teak redone 2 years ago, newer halyards.

Full set of racing sails plus a Dacron cruising Mainsail.

I'm the third owner and used it lightly the last 5 years.

Update: A survey this summer found moisture in the "typical J/30 places" but was deemed To be "not extensive". A diesel mechanic replaced an engine mount and a dried out gasget. He said the engine was in "very good shape". He has agreed to talk to potential buyers about the engine.

SAILS FOR SALE I have been cleaning out my loft and found that my sailboat rental program has no use for the following J30 sails. All are in very good condition or better, some are nearly new. I am guessing that they range in age from 6-10 years old, though all have been stored in a heated, building for nearly all of that time (The sails came with boats I acquired for daysailing purposes-no racing). They are a bargain for anyone who want great sails at attractive prices.

Haarstick Mainsail and #1 Genoa (quilt cut) Approximately 2000 vintage(?) but in excellent condition. Very lightly used. The mainsail looks new and the genoa nearly the same. Genoa has #6 luff tape. Picture available. $1,300 for the pair.

Boston #1 Genoa (~5oz dacron, #6 luff tape). Good to VG condition. I would rate this sail as OK for club racing and very good for daysailing. It is clean and has good crispness, indicating years of life remaining. $400.

Horizon 2.2oz. light #1 Genoa, dacron. Very good condition, with no indication of stress. The dacron is very clean and has good crispness. luff tape. $300

Storm Jib, dacron 8-9oz. Nearly new condition, showing no use at all. Luff 20', Foot 10', leach 15'. #6 luff tape(3/16"), and wire luff. $300.

Located in Chicago. contact: alanvee@comcast.net or 773 791 7923 Adv posted 10/8/2008
